Play a sound backwards
- Select the sound or phrase you want to reverse.
- Choose Effects → Reverse.
- Play the result and check its boundaries. Add a short fade if the reversed clip starts or stops abruptly.
Invert the waveform
Select the range and choose Effects → Invert. An inverted sound often sounds the same when played alone. The difference matters when it is combined with another related signal, where the signals can reinforce or cancel each other.
Use the right operation
Reverse is useful for a backwards cymbal, unusual voice effect or rising transition. Invert is a polarity operation; it does not remove arbitrary background noise or reliably separate a singer from a mixed song.
Compare before saving
Keep an untouched version for comparison. If you are adjusting related stereo or mixed signals, check the result on headphones and in mono before exporting.
