How to Add Reverb to an Audio Clip

Reverb adds a dense tail of reflections. A restrained amount can make a voice or instrument feel less close and dry.

Apply and listen

  1. Select the sound that needs reverb.
  2. Choose Effects → Reverb and preview the available settings.
  3. Balance the reflected sound with the original, then apply the effect.
  4. Listen through the end so the reverb tail is not cut off unexpectedly.

Protect the words

A long or strong tail can blur the next syllable. For narration, try a smaller amount and compare a complete sentence rather than a single word.

Match the space to the purpose

A short impression of space can suit a close voice. A longer tail can work as a deliberate musical effect. Listen in context before deciding that a larger effect sounds better.

Choose distinct repeats when needed

If you want to hear a sound repeat clearly after a pause, use Delay. Reverb is better for a continuous impression of space.
